It's quite the conundrum. And yet, we all still put ourselves down as mothers, even though it is quite obviously a blight that we all share -- and so it may not be so very terrible or unnatural to lose patience, give in to the TV sometimes, yes, sometimes yell. How to handle the guilt and inadequate feelings, other than cry and wail and beat your head against the wall? Maybe just shrug and say

It's impossible to be perfect. No one is. I let myself get caught up in my failures as a parent from time to time. Then I have to force myself to relax and let it go. Because as long as I'm trying to do my best, I'm doing OK.

My inner voice usually talks me down when I start thinking I am doing it all wrong. It, also, helps that I have a therapist that had 5 kids and tells me all the time that I am a good mom. It is, finally, sinking in.
