TV Is Good For You

I'm not the mom who forbids her child to watch TV. Don't get me wrong - if you don't want your child attached to the boob tube, I totally get it.

But my 2.4-year-old gave up her nap at 2.2. If I didn't have the TV, we'd be eating out of cans and the health department would have condemned the house long, long ago.

So when The Parent Bloggers Network asked me to review the Baby IQ "World Around Us" DVD, I jumped at the the chance. Music by the London Symphony Orchestra? Check. Images from nature? Check. Skill-building? Check.

Much like another well-known set of DVDs, this one is filled with colorful images and music. What sets Baby IQ apart, in my opinion, is the caliber of music. The classical pieces are performed by the LSO, and The Poo is all about music right now.

She also really enjoys the images from nature, the waving grass, swimming tropical fish and the water. I personally would be happier if the images in the "animals" segment were real, as opposed to puppets, but that is a minor price to pay for en educational video that engages the girl for more than five minutes.

For some reason, the shots of actual children engaging in play really got on the kid's nerves, but she's contrary like that. The Poo never liked that other DVD brand, but Baby IQ definitely appealed to her.

I would recommend this to anyone whose kids enjoy music, and I also highly recommend you watch with them when you can. It offers plenty of opportunity for conversation and education.
